On the second full day we were there, we went to Devil's Postpile. My sister and I had both been there before, on a backpacking trip in our teens, but couldn't remember it clearly.
You start out here at a ski lift area.
I would always see this huge mammoth statue on postcards or magnets, and wonder where it was. Well, it was at the bottom of this ski resort/lift area. A week with 8 teenage boys and three little kids has it's own unique challenges! :)
The buses that take you 13 miles to the different mountain stops were backed up about an hour, so we sat down and ate a packed lunch while we waited.
The bus drops you off at a Ranger station about 1/4 mile from Devil's Postpile. It's an easy hike in, through a beautiful area, with an ever-widening stream and lots of pine trees.
It was nice to see the older boys, who have gotten so busy with their lives, kind of rebonding with their cousins, and hiking and talking with their brothers.
Here's the view from the top of the Postpile...It is very famous for looking like floor tiles.
There were definitely people there speaking different languages. I was very glad we had taken the kids there.
Can you make out Brendan at the bottom of the picture? He looks camouflaged.
From this point we hiked on to Rainbow Falls...
